Caving tours

The caves of the district (over 30) are of great interest among tourists. One can find there a great number of small caves (Tavdin, Proletarskaya, Kyrkrlinskaya, Tohurakskaya, Katorzhnaya caves and others) and a few ca-ves that are considered the largest in Altai and East Siberia. Expert speleolo-gists take great interest in the Shakhta Altaiskaya (Altai Mine) - the largest and deepest cave of Altai and East Siberia situated in the upper reach of the Ustyuba river. It's 240 m deep and 2.5 km long with a great number of pits and passages. Stalactites and stalagmites form fascinating 5-meter pillars, while calcitic “flowers" amazingly set off the lakes inside the underground chambers. The caves are especially impressive in winter time.
